Realised I am broke and need to find accommodation for 9 days in America so set about trying to find camping sites. The plan is we fly into Toronto hire a car and drive down to Florida, we thought we would save some money as the flight over to Toronto is £375 whereas, the flight to Orlando is £580.
How clever saving money and a road trip too. We have allowed 9 days to travel down, the Americans drive 24 hours non stop to get to their destinations taking turns at the wheel but Corrie and I are not made of that stern stuff we plan to meander and play.
Thing is meandering will cost money. I worked it out (and I am hopeless at figures) that we could kiss goodbye to a fair bit of money finding accommodation for 9 days. Then we hit on the idea of camping. We love the thrift shops in America we thought we could pick up a secondhand tent and take cheap sleeping bags with us and save money that way.
I have been searching the internet for camping sites and prices. Came across log cabins, I thought they were a great idea but the people I have contacted say we must stay for a minimum of two nights! Also a lot of my enquiries have remained unanswered. I wondered if I was asking the right questions!
One man was very helpful, but I could tell he was a bit wary, he offered to try and get us accommodation in the log cabins in the place next door even though you had to be members to get in there and it couldn't be a public holiday, but when I wrote back and said 'great, thank you, could you tell me how far in hours you are from Philadelphia' he disappeared off the map. Also he called us 'you's'. Have you seen that film with those men on the river who get killed by people who call them 'you's'? Maybe camping is not such a good idea he probably got very frustrated with the mad Welsh woman and her questions.
We will have a very good time on the way down stopping in the thrift shops. We already have a shopping list we have to buy a buggy for Casey and a car seat as they charge an enormous amount to hire them when you land at the airport. I often wondered why I saw car seats on the luggage carousel, followed by buggies. I don't think the British are aware of the bargains they can buy in the thrift shop and leave behind. We regularly buy deckchairs and freezer boxes for a couple of dollars and go on picnics to the fresh water springs.
The fresh water springs are 100 times better than doing the Disney parks. Disney is plastic and hard work the fresh water springs of Florida are amazing. They are Florida's best kept secret.
