In a queue in our local Spar waiting patiently for the cashier to stop talking to the customer she was serving who was chatting away nineteen to the dozen, I thought what on earth is he on about, I could see the cashier couldn't get a word in edgeways. In fact she rarely raised her head as she diligently swiped his articles. Grief is he that boring I thought, by this time I was getting a bit frustrated, couldn't he see there was a queue. With that he picked up his plastic bags and still chatting away merrily headed for the door.
The penny dropped, he was talking on a mobile phone, 'how rude' I exclaimed to an embarassed cashier who nodded her head in agreement.
The situation reminded me of the time I was in Marks and Spencers last year searching through the rails for a bargain when I heard a loud 'hello' 'hello' I answered and peered over the rail to see a woman on a mobile taking instructions from who so ever was on the other end of the line as to what size and colour dress she was searching for. I felt very embarassed but she didn't give two hoots.
I am always saying 'hello' to strangers on mobile phones mistakenly thinking they are addressing me I don't think I will ever get used to this new technology.
