Armed with sandwiches, tasty pasties from 'The Princes' cafe Pontypridd, a chihauhau and my daughter Martha we arrived at the gate of Ynysangharad park full of expectations....
I receive emails now and again for Welsh Learners (I have been learning the language for 7 years) and they had recommended a visit to Parc Angharad, Pontypridd for the 150 anniversary of the Welsh National Anthem with Harpist Catrin Finch.
We passed by the children's paddling pool, that brought back many a happy memory of past picnics and fun when my kids were young. We approached the life guards and asked if they could direct us to the event. They shook they heads and said that they were not aware of anything going on in the park that day.
' It must be up in the pavillion' I said hopefully, fearing the worst, on reaching the spot I could see no sign of activity at all. 'Mam do you think you have the right date?' asked Martha. At my age you do tend to get a bit muddled so I could understand her concern.
We went to the office and found out that there had been celebrations but they had been in June. We went back up the hill and sat overlooking the pool eating our delicious sandwiches and pasties, reminiscing over old times. If I had stayed at home I would only have been cleaning the shower and the bathroom I consoled myself.
When I got home I called up the email and it did say 11th of July and Park Angharad. I can only assume that there is park in Pontypridd that I am unaware of called 'Angharad' or they made a mistake
