Fender Bender

My genius of a brother has been at it again, this time he really overstepped himself in the idiotic stakes. He was listending to the local radio station, they were having an auction on behalf of a local children's hospice. His ears pricked up when he heard a guitar was up for grabs...

He rang up and offered £500 for what he thought was a starburst fender guitar, signed by 'Darius' the highest bid up until that time had been £75 but that didn't deter him 'I thought I would get the bidding going' he told me miserably. The DJ put him live on air, it was then that Gareth was informed he wasn't bidding for a Starburst but a Sunburst, apparently one is more sort after than the other, by the time the penny had dropped his offer was accepted as no-one else was daft enough to top his bid and to rub salt into the wound he has to go and pick it up personally. Research on the guitar puts it at a price a good deal under £250. Oh, well, it was a good cause.

Just read in the Sunday Times that a woman who has been writing a blog for 6 weeks has landed a deal with Viking Penguin for a book worth £70.000. Apparently she writes a wry, poignant description of her life downshifting from London to rural Northumberland. It is all to do with the power of having the right connections apparently, her blog was mentioned on the website of Tom Watson MP and Ian Dale, the political commentator, that in turn led Andrew Sullivan, the American writer and Sunday Times columnist, to note its quality, and readers soon logged on in droves.
Got to go, got to write to my MP and a few other influencial people, get my blog noticed....
