My little grand-daughter Casey is here all week during the day as she is in between nursery care, she is a delight but into everything. I find I am absolutely exhausted when I wave her off in the evening.
To think that I raised four children without so much as a huff or puff. I didn't send mine to playgroup, I used to have too much fun playing with them. People would tell me that my children would not be able to socialise properly and communicate with other children if they didn't attend playgroup.
What a load of twaddle! We used to go to Mother and Toddler Group, they would run off into the middle of the room with the other toddlers and have a thoroughly good time. I just didn't see the necessity of putting them into a playgroup when we used to have so many adventures at home. Four children and you have a playgroup of your own!
Of course these days playgroups have to teach children the basic lessons in language and science before they begin nursery school. Parents are encouraged to send their children there under the impression that they will be lagging behind other pupils if they don't get their elementary lessons under their belt.
I made the right decision, I have never regretted not sending them, time flys so quickly, those extra hours we spent making papier mache masks and painting have left me so many happy memories.
