Flowers in the attic

A woman from the Council rang asking if I would like to see someone about saving energy...having the attic lagged etc... I had filled in their form to say I was interested in conserving energy hence the call but it was short notice as she wanted him to arrive in a couple of hours.

He arrived at 11a.m. to barking dogs and Casey covered in paint me flapping about like a lunatic. Anyway, he managed to sit down in the kitchen. He then went on to explain that as I had a stone house it wouldn't be possible for me to have cavity wall insullation.
He could lag the attic though! "My attic" I exclaimed "Well, it is full of stuff and it is hidden behind a heavy wardrobe" "You would have to empty it all, perhaps it would be better if I called back when you have emptied it" he added helpfully.
"The Council are assisting with the cost, aren't they?" I queried "It would be worth my while to persue this opportunity wouldn't it?" "Oh, yes", he said, "give us a ring when the attic is cleared."
I have a dilema now, as I realise that I will be moving from my house within the next 6 years and the new rules and regulations they are bringing in when you move that include a survey will declare how much insullation the house has installed. And I am not too sure about this but I think you have to get it done before you can sell your house.
I have to weigh this up against the tons and tons of rubbish I have accumulated in the attic. I know it will take a full week of non stop work to clear it. The thought of it is making me weak at the knees.

Don't panic !!. I was talking to an estate agent the other day. The survey is an energy efficiency survey, and the houses will be graded as such, BUT he said that it does not mean people will not buy your house, it just gives them some idea of what it costs to run etc. like we used to ask what the rates were . The worst he said was that a buyer may ask to knock off a couple off hundred pounds to re-do attic . At the moment you don't have to get it done to sell a property, but you will have to have certificates for boiler and electricty saftey. So your memories are safe at the moment !!
