Glastonbury Engagement

Posted by Boudica on June 28, 2007 6:55 PM |

Richard of "The Bee Orchid" had a big secret he wanted to ask Claire to marry him in Glastonbury but there was a BIG problem, Claire didn't have a ticket and he did....

He worked his socks off trying to get her a ticket. He tried competition after competition...he wrote to Joe Whiley of Radio 1. She had the nerve to ring him and offer him the option of asking Claire to marry him on the show but not supply Claire with a ticket. Could you imagine that ringing up your girlfriend from Glastonbury asking her the biggest question of your life then ending with "Got to go now, see you in a couple of days, "The Killers" are on" Good publicity for her show but a very bad idea for Richard and Claire. I felt like knocking Whiley's teeth down her throat as Rich initially when he got the call from the radio thought that his request had been successful.
It turned out that he didn't need the help of Radio 1 in the end, Claire managed to buy her own ticket and turned up to surprise us at the festival. We were all gob smacked. She kept it top secret. I for one couldn't believe my eyes because I knew the tickets were like gold. There she was large as life leaping around under the tree in front of the Pyramid stage.

This is the moment we spotted Claire in the crowd, I was speechless....and so happy ...she hadn't been able to confirm her ticket until the night before...even then she wasn't sure they would let her into the festival.

Richard casually asked Claire to check the tent on the last day to see if there was anything left inside before they collapsed it....when she looked there was an engagement ring in the middle of the tent. Apparently, he went down on one knee and there wasn't a dry eye in the field.

What a lovely and romantic story. I am wiping away the tears as I type. How lovely to have left the ring in the tent and getting her to find it like that. Jesus! Romance is not dead; good form, Richie boy. There is hope for us all. And BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH. You'll have to xuse me, now, I've just got to reach for the tissues.

No deal to Radio 1. I think it was great for Rich to hold out for what was right, with a polite no thankyou to Radio 1. Even though it then seemed impossible, never giving up always works out in the end.
A very proud Dad
