White knuckle ride

Claire and Richard of "The Bee Orchid" asked me to take them to Cardiff Airport today as they are going to have a weekend in Amsterdam

Called at the shop at the requested time of 1045 a.m. they messed about collecting their suitcase and called to their new house to check on the bathroom as the plumber was concerned about the toilet being in the right place.
When we finally set off at approximately 1110 a.m. Claire decided to check her booking and shock and horror she had misread the time of check in. The check in was closing half an hour before the flight. We worked it out that it was due to shut at 1140 hours. We were still 12 miles away at this point in a lot of traffic.
I gripped the steering wheel tightly and put my foot on the accelerator, the atmosphere in the car could be cut with a knife. We really thought we were not going to make it in time. We reached the airport and speed signs said 15 miles per hour, for goodness sake and we had 3 minutes to make it. Claire almost lost the plot at this point.
We swung open the doors. Claire and Rich leapt out of the car and ran frantically towards the doors. I drove miserably home convinced they had missed the check in. When I arrived back I noticed my phone flashing with a message it was Claire "thanks for the lift AV, we made it"
