No-one told me what to pack that is my excuse. We arrived at our first campsite to be greeted by Pete and Rod. Roger and I loved their sense of humour and obvious enjoyment of their job. I looked around and noticed the women were wearing shorts tee shirts and walking boots. What did I have packed....
My pink girly sandals and my blue peep toe sandals and a few evening dresses. I laughed and laughed when I realised my blunder, well, thankfully I had packed two tee shirts and one pair of trousers. Otherwise I had to make do with my two knee length dresses and my long silk nightie!!! Not one of the camp site women gave me a second look fairplay to them.
We marched up to the BQ we were going to make mince meat onions and spaghetti and we couldn't work out why the thing wasn't boiling the water or meat!! Suddenly I noticed the top was very flat, "should we take this off" I asked Roger, the two of us fell about as we realised we were cooking with the top still firmly in place and we couldn't take it off because it was too hot!!
We are meeting all sorts of interesting characters. Jim and Muriel had been travelling for four and a half years they are known as the "Grey Nomads" they had an absolutely huge vehicle, their own washing machine, television. Australia has a lot of retired people travelling their country exploring and having a wonderful time.
It has made me realise that kind of life is for me too. They stand around with their stubby greeting people and chatting, talking about where they have been and what they have experienced. It dawned on me that I want to be a "Grey Nomad" it beats the British way of life sitting in the living room watching televison, going on the odd holiday to liven your life up. Maybe, I should not generalise but I know my mam and grandmother had that kind of existance.
I am typing this blog sitting on Etty beach looking at the waves crashing on the sand, Pete the guy in reception has told us that this beach is visited every day by a very rare Australian bird called the Casserwerry...my only worry is, shall I take a swim in that blue blue sea.....Oh, I brought three swimming costumes!!!
