Answering the knock on my door I was faced by a young man who explained to me that he had been an offender but was making an effort of going straight by selling products door to door. He stood there shivering in his boots expectantly holding out his credentials and explaining that he had done very well on my road.
I found myself telling him that as I was saving every last penny to go away I wouldn't be buying from him on that occasion but I wished him good luck and goodbye.
When I sat down in the living room and described who had been at the front door to my daughter and how I had told him I was going away shortly so I was a bit short of cash, she raised her eyes to the ceiling and said "That's okay then mam, you have just advertised the fact you are going away to a dodgy character!"
Whoops, I hope he meant it when he said he was going straight!
